Meble Polska Fair - the largest furniture contracting event in Central and Eastern Europe - attracts each year crowds of traders from around the world interested in buying Polish furniture. The 2017 edition, held on March 14-17, confirmed the exceptional role of this event as one of the most effective tools to promote the exports of Polish furniture production. Increasingly often, the Furniture Fair in Poznań is listed in the elite group of the most important furniture industry trade fairs in Europe.
One in three visitors from abroad
This year's Fair was attended by 24,226 people, including as many as 21,168 professional visitors, which means an increase by 4.2 percent as compared to 2016. Wholesale distributors of furniture and representatives of furniture store networks from 53 countries became acquainted with the offer of the exhibitors of MEBLE POLSKA Furniture Fair 2017, and visitors from abroad amounted to 33 percent of all participants. Such a large presence of foreign traders at the Fair in Poznań is the result of several years of intensive promotion and information campaign conducted by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie in key markets for the export of Polish furniture. It is also the effect of the changes in the Fair formula initiated in 2010, and since that time MEBLE POLSKA have started to have a strictly business, contracting nature.
- I came to Poznań after a few years break and I have to say that I am impressed with the work that has been done by the MEBLE POLSKA Fair Director Józef Szyszka and his team. It is a truly top level event, comparable to the fairs in Milan or Cologne – said in an interview with MTP TV editor in chief of the German furniture industry magazine"Möbel Kultur", Sascha Tapken. As he emphasized, he felt at home at the Fair, as at every turn he was meeting the already well known representatives of the German furniture industry. Indeed, German traders form by far the largest group among foreign visitors (18.4 percent.). The number of furniture traders from Germany increased this year by as much as 31.5%. The Fair was visited by the representatives of all most important German purchasing groups and retail chains (e.g. Bega, Begros, Garant, Home24, Kika/Leiner, Multi-Möbel, EMV, Möbelix, Poco, Porta, Roller, XXXLutz).
Apart from Germans, most numerous groups of foreign traders arrived from the UK, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary. Large groups of furniture traders also came from Romania, Estonia, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Belarus and Spain. For many of them, it was a first visit to the Fair in Poznań, and often even in Poland. This was the case with David Parres from the Spanish furniture store network Tiendas Anticrisis El Castor. So far, the company has been buying Polish furniture only by brokers, and the purpose of the visit of its representatives in Poznań was to contact the suppliers directly. - We are truly surprised at the size of the Poznań Furniture Fair. We did not expect it to be so big. Before, we used to purchase in Germany, being aware of the fact that a large part of the products originated from Poland. Therefore, we decided to meet in person those suppliers and learn the situation in the Polish market, so that we could rely not only on the information from our German brokers – explained David Parres in an interview with TV MTP.
New markets, new perspectives
The considerable increase in the number of visitors does not refer only to the guests from Germany. As compared to 2016, many more traders also arrived from (in alphabetical order): Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Malta, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. – From our perspective, it is extremely important that the structure of the MEBLE POLSKA Fair visitors becomes more varied thanks to the traders representing new markets. As a consequence, our exhibitors face completely new prospects for the development of exports – says MEBLE POLSKA Fair Director, Józef Szyszka. This year, for the very first time, the Fair in Poznań was visited by the traders from Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Egypt, Kosovo, India, Indonesia, Liechtenstein, Mauritius and Peru. -We heard a lot about Poland, so this year we decided to come here and see for ourselves the presented offer. I was surprised by the large variety of products offered. We were looking for bedroom furniture systems, living room suites and kitchen furniture and we managed to find them. We reached the top five suppliers and now we have to make a choice – says Mousheerl Maharaullee representing the TFP International retail chain, which sells imported furniture in Mauritius and Australia. As he emphasizes, customers associate furniture manufactured in Poland with high quality. - The prices are slightly higher than in China, but I think the furniture will sell well – explains Mousheerl Maharaullee.
Record-breaking edition of the 21st century
Many participants of the MEBLE POLSKA Furniture Fair 2017 estimate that it was the best edition of the event in the twenty-first century. The success of the Fair in 2016 resulted in the fact that this year many new companies registered their participation, and a large part of the existing exhibitors decided to show at the Fair an even wider range of furniture, and thus they have increased the surface area of their stands. The exhibition of approx. 300 companies and brands occupied 9 exhibition halls with the total surface area of 45,000 sqm. In addition to Polish companies, furniture manufacturers from Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Estonia, Ireland, Lithuania, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, Great Britain and Italy also presented their offer at the Fair. The largest stand (1,300 sqm) was prepared by the Black Red White company, which returned to the group of the MEBLE POLSKA Fair exhibitors after a few years break. - At the Fair in Poznań, we saw a lot of really interesting high quality products. Although the French market has just started to open to Polish manufacturers, I think it is a very good development direction – says Emilie Blanchet, editor in chief of the most important magazine of the furniture industry in France, "Le courrier du meuble et de l'habitat". A part of the exhibition was presented in enclosed space (i.e. secret rooms) dedicated to key buyers with the largest purchasing budgets.
MTP Gold Medal
This year the rules of assessing the furniture submitted to the MTP Gold Medal competition at the MEBLE POLSKA Furniture Fair have been changed. The organizers took into consideration the comments of exhibitors and suggestions of the members of the Competition Jury, who sought to have a possibility to test the original product at the stands when assessing the products registered in the competition. The assessment of applications now is carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the Jury, on the basis of the documentation submitted, nominates furniture for the prize. The final selection of the winners was held on the first day of the MEBLE POLSKA Furniture Fair. The products submitted for the competition are assessed in two categories: "Premieres", which includes prototype products made especially for the Fair and "Confirmed Quality" concerning the furniture already present in retail chains and having all the necessary certificates. This year, the Competition Jury awarded the Gold Medal to 15 products. The detailed list of all medal winners >>>
Comprehensively about interior design and decoration
Like last year, the Meble Polska 2017 Fair was accompanied by the Home Decor Interior Design Fair with a similar, contracting profile, and the arena DESIGN event dedicated to industrial design, during which lectures by the world stars of design are held. This time, the special guest of arena Design was Nipa Doshi – a co-founder of the Indo-Scottish Doshi Levien design studio. Elle Decor magazine ranked them as Best Designers 2015. As part of the entire Fair block, a total of 500 companies and brands presented their offer on the surface area of 63,500 sqm.
The next edition of MEBLE POLSKA Furniture Fair will be held on March 6-9, 2018 in Poznań.
